Enigma源自于希腊文，英语解释为“谜，不可思议的东西”，中文别名 ： 英格玛/谜。

Enigma以其神秘主义风格吸引了无数乐迷。神秘主义的主题用现代电子乐来表现，使人产生一种时空交错的奇妙感觉。其中的人声也非常美妙：女声亮丽动人，如夜莺一般悦耳；男声低沉隐约，令人着迷。乐队的音乐取材也非常广泛，源于世界各地。

Enigma融合了数种相互衡突矛盾的音乐类型：格里高利圣咏唱诗班、黑人舞曲旋律节奏、法语说白和类似Vangelis音乐大师作品的键盘音乐效果。欲营造出虚无灵妙余音妖娆的空幻音乐天地，是“NEW AGE MUSIC”的代表。

然而，很多时候，人们只是闻其声，却极少了解“谜”背后的故事。“谜”到底是个什么样的组合？ 这位躲藏在“谜”背后的男人叫迈克尔·克利图Michael Cretu ，是个天才的音乐家和制作人。

迈克尔·克利图（Michael Cretu），1957年5月18日出生于罗马尼亚布加雷斯特， 罗马尼亚/德国音乐家、歌手、作曲家、音乐品牌英格玛的创始人，被誉为“英格玛背后的男人”（The ManBehind Enigma）。

迈克尔·克利图（MichaelCretu）将录音工程，取样(sampling)技巧及量身定作之工作室 (project studio)的概念，积渐纳入他的音乐思维与创作当中。「谜」的音符图腾，从麦可所使用的声音元素中，可感受其对於生命、人类、世界的尊重与性灵的升华。哲学性浓厚。

1990年10月，”谜”的首支单曲”SadenessPart I”首先推出，这首歌成为他们最著名的热门单曲。紧接着推出的个人专辑MCMXC.a.D.（公元前2000年）成为德国有史以来卖的最好的专辑，一种销售了1200万张，在41个国家登上了专辑排行榜冠军，并且在美国排行榜200名中停留了5年之久。

在90年代流行音乐稳步前进的时候，谁也没想到”Enigma”居然没有追随标准成功的流行规则，而是运用了笛子和中世纪的圣歌的咏唱和电吉它、铜管等现代乐器，传达着现代人的气息、情感和能量。

在1991年的时候，MCMXC.a.D.推出一个限量版本，增加了4首曲目，不过都是在原来专辑歌曲的基础上重新相互混音乐并延长而成，所以这张唱片从开头到结尾都有一气呵成的感觉。限量版唱片的封面设计与原先几乎完全相同，但是用一种灰暗色的绿背景代替了原来的黑色。

总的来说，MCMXC.a.D.（公元前2000年）是90年代流行音乐史上的一张杰作，它的音乐具有高度的独创性且一次次地营造了一种独一无二的氛围。到目前为止，这种声音和氛围只有被另一位艺术家成功地模仿并改进过，就是Delerium和他们的专辑SemanticSpeaces，而大多数人尝试这样的音乐都失败了。两年后他开始为电影Sliver（银色）作电影原声碟。

1993年，”Enigma”的第2张专辑The Cross of Changes（变换的十字架）推出。由于第一张专辑的成功。第2张专辑还未正式推出便已得到140万张CD的订单。这张专辑不但拥有上张专辑的气质，而且是一个进化。它的封面设计的非常有味道：是一个黑色的圈及一个有人特点的机器物走在前头，画线看上去非常模糊不清。

迈克尔·克利图（Michael Cretu）和夫人桑德拉·克利图（Sandra Cretu）在西班牙的伊维萨特岛上过着与世隔绝的生活，但他们却创造了一个流行音乐的新时代，在其他的商业性宣传中，你实在难以找出用英语、法语、拉丁语交融的格里高利圣咏、超现实主义的笛声、女人的呼吸声、以及永远无法琢磨到的音源。

Enigma每一张专辑都是可点可圈的佳作，并且已成为德国流行音乐史上的瑰宝。

这几天还和罗马尼亚的一个老哥G·Emilian唠嗑，谈及MichaelCretu。每次说到他们国家的音乐，这位在中国的软件工程师就满脸的自豪并向我推介一些音乐家，包括大家都耳熟能详的George·Enescu、Gheorghe·Zamfir等。让G·Emilian更高兴的事情是他的女儿Ioana在英国读完大学后在中国国际广播电台觅到一份不错的工作。我的自豪点在于高傲的欧洲佬们很多来到了中国发展，多么希望祖国的音乐也能更多元更多种地遍地开花。不要再中国的民歌一百个人唱如同一人了。比如，曾尝试收藏彭麻麻的歌曲，实在坚持不了听几首，我没有找到不同，只能删删删。
