If you don’t like guitars, you probably won’t like Earthless. Sure, the San Diego band are a very good rock ’n’ roll trio with a deep-groove rhythm section; Mario Rubalcaba drums inOFF! and used to play with Rocket from the Crypt, while bassist Mike Eginton moves from side to side with a rich and bulbous tone. But the reason to show up– hell, the reason this band exists– is so that Isaiah Mitchell can let his strings and his pedals, his fingers and his knobs, run high above the rumble below. If you like guitars, you probably like Earthless a lot, then, since when Mitchell’s as unhinged as he is here, he’s a phenomenal player.
