◎简　　介
　　　　家庭富裕的波特小姐（芮妮•齐薇格 饰）至今已32岁了依然未婚，而从小很喜欢画画的她，多年来一直视自己所画的动物们为朋友。波特小姐的作品得到了出版社的认同，为她策划的是韦恩先生（伊万•麦克格雷格 饰）。韦恩先生一直被家中的两名兄长认为不是做生意的材料，他要借这次机会好好表现。波特小姐也希望做出点成就给母亲看看。 　　事情发展顺利，波特小姐的书一本本成功出版，她与韦恩两人日久生情。韦恩先生在圣诞派对上向波特小姐求婚，可是他们的婚姻却没有得到波特小姐父母的赞同。 　　一直以来波特的父母都想为她找一个门当户对的人，但他们还是为女儿的幸福做出了让步。波特夫妇要求女儿与韦恩先生分开3个月，看他们的恋情是否能经历考验。波特一家来到了农庄度假，期间波特小姐以书信的形式与韦恩先生沟通，突然她收不到未婚夫的回信，才知道韦恩病了，当她赶到时，韦恩先生已离世了。 　　自此，波特小姐仿佛失去了画画的能力，她要封闭自己……
